Über–Lebens–Energie | Mürzzuschlag, 1988

[…] „ÜBER–LEBENS–ENERGIE“ ist neben anderen Veranstaltungen ein Beitrag des diesjährigen Programms der „Steirischen Kulturinitiative“ in Zusammenarbeit mit dem „steirischen herbst“. […] Bereits im Frühjahr dieses Jahres hatten sich neun in- und ausländische Fotografen mit kleinen Ausstellungen in steirischen Industrieorten vorgestellt, um so ortsansässige Interessenten zur Teilnahme an einem zweiwöchigen Workshop einzuladen. […] Das Arbeitsthema war durch die gegenwärtige Situation der Städte und Gemeinden vorgegeben, gemeinsam bieten sie einen durchaus repräsentativen Querschnitt durch die steirische (österreichische? europäische?) Krisenregion, die seit Jahren durch Schließungen und Umstrukturierungen vor schwerwiegenden Existenz- und Identitätsfragen steht. […] In den darauffolgenden Workshops sollten die fotografische Erfahrung der Referenten und die Kenntnis der Teilnehmer von den regionalen Bedingungen zu einer gemeinsamen Arbeit genutzt werden, die sowohl an Ort und Stelle als auch in anderen Gebieten politischen wie künstlerischen Ansprüchen gerecht werden und darüber hinaus als Materialsammlung von kulturhistorischer Bedeutung sein sollte. […]

[…] Along with other events, “SURVIVING–ENERGY” has been a contribution to this year‘s program of “Styria‘s Cultural Initiative” launched in cooperation with the “styrian autumn”. […] As early as spring this year, nine photographers from Austria and abroad had made their introduction with small exhibitions in Styrian industrial towns in order to invite local photographers to participate in a two weeks‘ workshop. […] The present situation in the communities have set the theme. The results offer a fairly representative cross-section view of a crises-shaken Styrian (Austrian? European?) region where shut-downs and restructuring schemes have raised grim questions of existence and identity. […] In the workshops that followed, the photographic experience of the workshop leaders and the participants‘ knowledge of local conditions were to merge in their cooperation, the results of which were to satisfy political needs and artistic Standards locally and elsewhere and to create a collection of material of cultural-historical importance. […]
